Nandi county government through the Tourism, culture and social welfare portfolio has initiated programs aimed at improving lives of people living with disability in the county.
Speaking today during a PWD´s census sensitization programme in Chepterwai Mosop Sub-county , Nandi deputy Governor H.E Yulita Mitei said the main objective of the census is to generate an updated data base of all persons living with Diasbilities in the county.
She also noted that the census which will be conducted soon, will ensure that the county maintains reliable data on intervention strategies and methods of mitigating problems faced by PWD´s in the county.
The county government will also register all PWD´s in the county with National council of people with disabilities.
In attendance was Nandi county CECM Culture and social welfare Mrs. Valentine Chumo, Chief officer social welfare Mr. Philip Towett, Director social Welfare Mr. Moses Kemboi and area MCA Hon. Elphas cheruiyot.
According to the Kenya National Survey for Persons with Disabilities, there are more than a million disabled people in Kenya.
The global day for the disabled is marked every year December 3, with research indicating that one billion people around the world are living with disabilities.
