Nandi County Assembly suspends sittings, ask locals to stay indoors.
Nandi County Assembly has suspended its sittings indefinitely to curb the possible spread of Coronavirus.
The assembly had the last sitting on Wednesday where they decided to hold bills for 30 days and halt other operations at the assembly.
Ward representatives asked locals to stay at their homes and minimize contact with people to avoid the spread of covid-19.
Majority leader David Koech asked residents and leaders who may have arrived from foreign countries to self-quarantine for 14 days.
“Many of our members regularly receives visitors at their homesteads many seek financial support and you know they travelled from far which put risk to the family members and even other members of the public flocking in our homes” Said Koech.
MCAs consisting of Emmanuel Mengeech (Lessos), Gedion Koech (Nandi Hills) and Jackson Swadi (Kibwareng) said locals needed more sensitization on the virus and asked political leaders to take the initiative through the media.
The move by the county assembly comes after results of suspected cases in the county turned out as negative.
A county health official said five individuals who arrived from the United States, United Arab Emirates and Italy had tested negative but had been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
