Nandi county assembly Speaker Joshua Kiptoo criticise Uhuru’s plan to launch EPZ.

Plans to launch Export Processing Zone by President Uhuru Kenyatta has been critized by a section of leaders from Nandi County.

Nandi County Assembly Speaker Joshua Kiptoo said the plans by President Uhuru Kenyatta was a violation of law since there was no public participation, especially on Nandi County farmers.

The speaker was speaking ahead of the expected launch of Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Kisumu County.

“We have never had an issue with privatization, we have never had an issue with leasing but if they do not follow the law or the process this one will also come to a cropper,” said Kiptoo.

He said that they have done five cases in kisumu and Eldoret high court for farmers in chemelil chemase on cases of privatization and leasing and succeeded adding that if they will not follow the law they will go to court.

“Public participation is a constitutional right and they must follow it. Most importantly they have not given a clear direction as to the status of the land, is it a community land? Is it a private land? Is it a public land?,” he question.

He said the county government has a right and responsibility over the same issue.
