Nandi: Anglican Church distributes funds to cushion vulnerable families against Covid-19 effects.
Over 600 vulnerable persons received donations to cushion them against the Covid-19 adverse economic impacts in Nandi county.
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Kapsabet diocese commenced on distributing the funds in an exercise dubbed ‘Giving hope’, which targeted groups including widows, girls and the inmates negatively affected by the global pandemic.
For the girl child initiative, 24 needy students got Sh. 15, 000 school fees each which were in verge of dropping out of the school, thus help them to realize their dreams.
Following the ravaging pandemic that battered the country’s economy, widows were not left out as the church under the leadership of Bishop Paul Korir, the families whose fathers died, the women benefited from the donation kitty to revive their businesses to support their children.
“We got Sh 1Million that we were urged to support the community amid the Covid-19 outbreak, and to our deliberation, we resolved to supporting the weak in the community. We found that girls were at risk of staying at homes due to lack of school fees and therefore, we consider those hail in abject poverty,” he said.
Considering those serving sentence in prisons as one of the abandoned groups in the society, Bishop Korir said that they procured faces masks and sanitizers to help in the fight against the infectious respiratory virus.
” It was also and opportune moment of joining them and offering spiritual hope as part of the society. We showed them love and concerned so that their humanity is restored and become the loyal citizens,” stated Bishop Korir, claiming there is tendencies of disconnect between the community and members of the families in Prisons urging the society to embrace them back after completing their service.
However, the clerical team also were awarded with the governor gowns and other preaching items to boost the gospel service in the community.
