Multi-Agency team to enforce adherence to Covid-19 protocols in Uasin gishu.

The Uasin Gishu County Covid-19 Rapid Response Team will soon be rolling out a multi-agency team that will be tasked to ensure all key players, including members of the public strictly adhere to spelt out Covid-19 preventive measures .

This was a resolution reached following the team’s meeting at the County headquarters in Eldoret town on Friday co-chaired by the Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno and County Commissioner Stephen Kihara .

Speaking after the meeting, Chemno named matatu industry, bodabodas , hotels, bars and supermarkets among the key sectors that have been identified as weak links in curbing the spread of the pandemic in the county.


“ As it stands now, we have over 4,234 infections; that is big number and were more worried of the numbers that we don’t know – and this is a number that is a threat to everybody,” said Chemno.

He also pointed out that the third wave that the country is facing is more lethal as the virus has exhibited symptoms that are totally different from what was originally related the virus when it first started.

The Ddeputy Governor called on the residents to always seek medical advice whenever they have any health issues, and avoid self-medication which might end up being costly to them.

“ Third wave of the pandemic is not giving the original symptoms . The symptoms are totally different . Some are treating malaria, stomach and other challenges not related to Covid -19 . Some are taking self-medicating thinking they are attending common challenge but it comes too late when it is discovered that they have Coid-19 ,” Chemno said.

He also asked matatu operators, church leaders, bars and restaurant owners to ensure strict adherence of the Covid-19 protocols.

“We are mapping out areas that we are witnessing challenges in implementing these protocols and we shall roll out a multi-disciplinary team to ensure those loophole are sealed,” noted that Deputy Governor.

On his part, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara assured that the security team will work hand in hand with the county in fully enforcing resolutions reached at the Covid-19 County Response Team.

“We assure our commitment as security players to work than before to ensure what we’ve agreed is fully implemented . We’re also going further to involve chiefs and village elders at the grassroots to help in ensuring the proposals are followed ,” said Kihara.

County Executive Member for Health Dr. Everlyne Rotich her Finance counterpart CPA Julius Ruto, Eng. Gideon Birir for Roads, County Secretary Edwin Bett, and Chief Officer for Health Dr. Morogo were in attendance.
