Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to give special attention to the persons with disability during the 30-day mass registration drive.
Noting that the PWDs are experiencing physical challenges that hinder them from being enrolled into the BVR, Cherargei urged IEBC to make the registration services accessible to them to ensure they take part in the next general election.
“As we target over hundred thousand new voters in Nandi, we want the IEBC to avail the Biometric registration kits to places where persons with disability can access with ease”, he urged.
He further rallied Deputy President William Ruto’s supporters across the country to come out and register in large numbers to make his quest for presidency in 2022 a reality.
The senator who is also seeking to defend his senetorial position for the second term petitioned the electoral body to provide mobile registration services in hardship regions including Baringo,Elgeyo Marakwet,West Pokot ,Turkana and North Eastern counties prone to natural calamities poor physical terrains.
“If we are to realize the 6 million plus new voters ahead of the forthcoming polls, then equal opportunities for registration must be given to people under different circumstances for fair registration platforms to exercise their democratic right”, the legislator maintained.
The 30-days mass registration exercise enters its second week with the first days experiencing a low turn out of 3, 300 new voters.
