Laikipia University is set to present a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa), a degree awarded without Examination to Mr. Eliud Kipchoge EGH during their seventh graduation ceremony in December 2019.
In an advert published in national dailies on Wednesday, November 27, the university said Kipchoge will be honoured for his tremendous contributions in the realm of sports with his recent achievement being the first human being to run a 42 KM race in 1.59.40 hours in Viena.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) said the decision was approved by the University Senate following Kipchoge’s outstanding performance in the world of athletics.
“The University Senate in making this award noted that Eliud has made tremendrous contributions in the real of sports. The senate specifically recognises his most recent achievement of becoming the first human in history to run a sub two hour marathon.” Said VC
According to the Oxford Dictionary, Honoris Causa, is a degree given to a person as a sign of honour and respect, without them having to take an exam.
This comes hardly a week after the athlete bagged the Male Athlete of the Year award from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
“Laikipia University invites Kenyans and the international community to celebrate with us this outstanding and humble athlete who continues to give his best to inspire human kind,” the university said.
