Jiggers Menace: Uasin Gishu woman rep greeted with misery in her tour.
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei was met with shock after coming face to face to the extent of poverty and suffering among people in Budalangi area in Soy Sub-county.
Residents infested with jiggers amid poverty was the ugly image that drove the leader to tears as she came to terms with the shocking reality.
“My findings were unappealing and very much disturbing. Poverty and jigger infestation has really eaten into the lives of the residents and they are suffering in silence with nobody or place to run to.” She said.
She observed that locals were deprived of basic medical needs, clothing and other personal effects.
Among the cases included one Mzee Mburu who reside inside a maize plantation living in a small enclosed cage made of wood and rugged iron sheet.
The kids were also most affected since they walk barefoot on a dirty environment which permits the entry of jiggers into their bodies.
After visiting the woman rep was touched and she discussed the issues facing them and the possible urgent solutions in order of priority.
“We came to a consensus that we first help them acquire treatment and fumigation service to fight the jiggers. We will also build a house and supply them with necessary personal eefects.” She said.
Shollei donated rubber shoes and fumigation sprays to a number of victims and promised to seek a remedy solution to the residents.
She has also appeal to any well wisher to support her in restoring the dignity of the lives of the people of Budalangi by donating any of the household and personal items since they urgently need them.
