I will not be intimidated, says Ex-Minister Stephen Tarus.
Ex-minister Stephen Tarus has recorded the statement with the police claiming that his life is in danger over his political inclination.
He claimed that a section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party members are uncomfortable with his remarks concerning stalled national government projects in the North Rift region and his apparent support to ODM party leader Raila Odinga presidential aspirations.
Addressing the journalist in Kapsabet town, Mr Tarus who was also Mp for Emgwen between 2002-2007, claimed that the officers from Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) office have launched the investigation on the persons peddled threatening messages in the social media over claims that his house was touched.
The information came out hours after clashing with Kapseret Mp Oscar Sudi while attending the burial of Agnes Tirop on Saturday 23th October, 2021. Mr Tarus stated that the contingent of security officers from Mosoriot and Kapsabet central police stations were deployed to man his residents in Chepterit over night.
“Leaders should stop missusing the power and inciting the youth to execute retrogressive political acts. I have recorded the statement with the criminal detectives and the those involved must be brought to books,” he said, accusing the local leaders for using social functions for political intimidation.
Mr Tarus ditched Deputy president William Ruto’s bandwagon and bacame ODM party’s pointman campaigning for Raila presidency to the chagrin of Dp Ruto’s allies in the region.
“I am not that kind of a person benefiting from people languishing in poverty. I speak my mind regarding the economic challenges we are facing as the residents of Nandi,” he said.
He challenged the Deputy President to turckle issues affecting the northrift region especially the agriculture sector.
“The importation of grains into the country has killed market for the commodities produced by our local farmers yet the the UDA affiliated leaders have no resolutions anchored in the party manifestos. For how long shall we be quiet?” and paused.
However, Mr Tarus vowed that he will continue championing for the interest the people and heading the campaigns for Raila Odinga ahead of the next year’s presidential election.
