Governor Sang calls on government to release Sh. 10 billion compensation fund for historical land injustices victims.
Nandi governor Stephen Sang want the government to release Sh. 10 Billion compensation funds for the victims of the historical land injustices.
He claimed the persons forcefully evicted from their ancestral lands three decades ago have been squatters living along the forests and rocky escapements prone to landslide incidence for years.
Governor Sang stated that the families set to be compensated were tortured and lost their properties to the colonial government and the courts resolved to be compensated, claiming that the government has not acted upon the court rulings.
“His excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta should understand that that his legacy would be solid if he would able to allocate the Sh. 10 billion funds to support victims of historical injustices. The truth justice and reconciliation commission report and the National land commission (NLC) resolutions should be unveiled to served justice for once and for all to the victims,” said Sang.
The county boss further pointed accusing fingers to the minsiry of lands and environment, claiming to have been an derailing the implementation of the NLC reports for the last ten years.
“CS Keriako Tobiko has been scuttling the resettlement process of the landless persons even after the NLC recommends. And it has really been a challenge across the country for the victims to get justice,” he added.
However, Governor Sang urged the judiciary to objectively expedite on pending land petition cases warning of the existence of ‘cartels’ attempting to curtail the courts proceedings.
