Government to promote sports tourism, recognize athletes in North Rift.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has said the National Government will work with counties in north rift region to promote sports tourism.
This comes at the time that Nandi County brands itself as source of champions while Uasin Gishu is popularised as the home of champions.
Balala who met with Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) Chief Executive Officer Dominic Biwott and other officials said retired and current athletes will be recognized.
The CS said all tourism products throughout the region will be marketed using through athletics.
“People should recognize athletes and can be used as positive image. Imagine building cottages or a beautiful tent camp in a tea plantation, tourist will leave Masai Mara to come here. Said Balala
Governor sang said as county government there’s a huge tourism potential across the region.
“We need to be able to profile this region because we are known for tea, athletics and there’s need to put together all this potential that we have and be able to cluster and provide the region as a tourism circuit.” He said.
NOREB boss applauded plans by CS to profile the region as a tourism hub.
