Former Baringo Governor opposes merging of constituencies.
Former Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has expressed his objection to proposals to merge constituencies.
Speaking to press, Cheboi argue that merging constituencies will be disadvantaged to the residents since it will create electoral districts that are too big to manage.
Cheboi said that the proposed merger will affect service delivery and development projects spearheaded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), hence lead to further marginalization of the region.
The former governor asked leaders to focus on the boundary review as they concentrate on BBI since merging constituencies will be disadvantage to residents since resources will be limited.
Cheboi wants the constituencies formed before to remain as it is as it will help in developments in specific areas.
This comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission- IEBC announced that reviewing of constituency boundaries will kick off next month which will be its biggest test ahead of the 2022 General Election where the review will be based on the population quota derived from the census.
The Electoral Agency will decide on the fate of 26 constituencies that did not meet the population criteria when the last review was done in 2012.
