Tindiret MP Julius Meli has decried delay in the harvesting of sugarcane in his constituency.
The legislator said the delay had subjected cane farmers to misery.
In an exclusive interview with Northrift Mirror, Meli warned warned that farmers were likely to incur loses if the delay was not addressed.
“Unless Government intervenes and push industries to harvest the produce, the losses are imminent. We need urgent intervention,” said Meli.
The MP said that most people in the area depend on sugarcane farming and if they are not assisted parents will not afford school fees for their children and also afford providing for basic needs.
“As a farmer I want to tell the factories in Kibos, Chemelil and West Kenya to see that they harvest sugarcane because we have a lot of sugarcane that have dried and no company is ready to take it for harvest,” He said.
He also urged the government to ensure that they repair Chemelil factory and Muhoroni factory. He added that Kibos and west Kenya should assist because the locals might end up loosing a lot.
