Expect a clean campaign, Nandi Candidates pledge.
Candidates contesting for various political seats in Nandi county have pledged to adhere to electoral code of conduct laid down by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Speaking after training session with the IEBC officials,the candidates said that they want chart a new course from that of many ills attributed to politicians who disregard the existing laws governing elections in the country
” A lot of blame have been laid on the politicians for all sorts of problems facing Kenya and its root cause is the conduct during elections. We promised to walk away from this mentality “, affirmed Nick Tirop,a gubernatorial candidate.
Voter bribery and voter treatment topped the list of tools politicians use to influence voters to vote in a certain way.
Nandi county elections manager Silas Rotich cautioned the candidates not to be tempted to bend the code of conduct relating to elections saying the consequences will be swift.
“We will not hesitate to take action against any candidate going contrary to what we have covered today. We can even disqualify you from the race. Let’s hope we don’t get there”, said Rotich.
The meeting brought together all the gubernatorial, senatorial and women representative candidates from various political affiliations and those vying on independent tickets
