A truck driver who was yesterday confirmed by CS Mutahi Kagwe to have tested positive for corona virus in Elgeyo Marakwet county has been traced.
Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos while addressing press today said that county health team successfully traced the patient to Eldoret town early in the morning and immediately notified Uasin Gishu County health team, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Uasin Gishu County Security Officials.
Tolgos added that the patient was questioned and he provided a separate test result in his possession which showed that he was Covid 19 negative and that he had not travelled to his home in Keiyo North.
He said that fresh samples were taken from him for a confirmatory test at Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital and he patient was transferred to an isolation centre in Uasin Gishu County.
County boss noted that the County Covid 19 Respons team quickly visited the patients home and took samples from his family members and placed them under self quarantine.
“If the results turn positive, the health team will take immediate action which include contact tracing and testing to mitigate spread of the disease in the County,” he said.
Tolgos appeal to the residents not to be anxious because the county has teams and enough resources on standby to respond to any emerging Covid 19 case.
However, he lamented that the reported case in the County should make people more alert and strictly observe all precautionary measures given by the government.
“All of us should continue putting on our masks in public, wash our hands or sanitize and maintain social distancing,”added Tolgos.
