Eldoret town gets transformational facelift.

New ideals of urban life are changing as environmental and economic pressures on cities grow.

Uasin Gishu County’s town headquarters, Eldoret, set for an upgrade to city status, is currently undergoing a face-lift that will see to it that people adopt to the pressures of growth in the town.

CECM Eng. Nelson Maritim of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, and his counterpart Mrs. Mary Njogu from Department of Water and Natural resources during a site visit of the projects, said the county is constructing stormwater drainages that will help to manage water flows by integrating mechanical solutions with natural features, which will divert the stormwater from major drainages along Uganda road and reduce flooding during heavy rains.

While at it, uniquely the drainages will be sealed off to create walkways along the same road stretch to reduce conflicts between pedestrians and motorists on the busy highway.

The project manager Mr. Kenneth Mbeka, Chief Officer Urban Planning said transformative urban initiatives also include beautification and creation of an enabling environment to improve businesses in the town.
