A man in Mariakani, Kapsoya, Eldoret, was on Wednesday arrested after he murdered his wife and stuffed her body into a drum.
Kapsoya OCPD John Owuoth, who affirmed the incident, identified the suspect as David Siloba Achale and the deceased as Fiona Kasuya.
Owuor said the man returned from the US last month and is said to have had bitter differences with his wife.
Police said the suspect used a sharp panga to cut the woman all over her body. He then took the body to a pit latrine in the compound and set it on fire. The suspect was arrested in the compound.
Neighbours described the man as reserved. They said he rarely spoke to other people.
The woman’s throat had been slit and one hand had also been chopped off. The body was badly burnt and the police had a difficult time removing it from the pit.
“The body had deep cuts all over and we have taken it to Moi Referral Hospital and Teaching Hospital morgue as we continue with investigations,” Owuor said.
Neighbours said the two quarrelled frequently and at times they fought in public.
One of their neighbours said the man was recently seen pulling the woman’s hair after they quarrelled near Kapsoya centre.
“They have been having a rather bad relationship because they kept fighting,” said another neighbour.
