DG Chemno flags off 16.5 tonnes of food donations.
Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno, Friday, flagged off 16.5 tons of foodstuff to be distributed to one thousand vulnerable households across five villages in the county.
The COVID -19 donations which were received from Last Resort Foundation, Parklands Mosque and Madrasa Trust through the auspices of Red Cross Kenya.
Speaking during the function DG Chemno thanked The Red Cross for the continued support they have extended to The County Government of Uasin Gishu and the county residents to fight Corona Virus Pandemic.
“The county Government of Uasin Gishu also conveys deep condolences to The Red Cross Family for the loss of Advocate Paul Birech. He has been your most ardent advocate and the face of The Red Cross benevolence in the North Rift and Western Kenya for many decades”, Chemno said.
Speaking on behalf of Red Cross Nairobi County Chairman Pallan Lalchand said that their organization is working on another batch of donations consisting 2,000 face masks for the vulnerable households as well as food donations to Eldoret Rescue Centre.
Nicholas Kemboi Red Cross, Red Cross North Rift Regional Manager said that the foodstuff comprising cereals, pulses and washing soap will be distributed to identified households in Kambi Turkana, Kambi Teso, Chebaiywo( Kesses), Kamkunji, and Langas. Each family will receive approximately 16.5 Kilograms of donations.
Alsopresent during the flag-off were County Secretary Edwin Bett, Chief Officer for Health Services Joseph Keroney and Mohammed Mwabudzo Assistant County Commissioner (Turbo Sub-county).
