Clergy in Nandi County want churches reopened amid Covid-19 pandemic.

Nandi County Clergy Association (NCCA) want Government to lift the closure of church services in Kenya.

The association said it was wrong for the Government to forbid Christians from assembling for worship.

NCCA Secretary General Bishop Michael Chirchir asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to reverse the directive and allow worships to continue under guidelines from the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the virus.

Chirchir said it was ironical for the Government to allow Public Service Vehicles, shopping malls, barber shops and other business premises yet churches which are spacious and offer solace and hope remained closed.

“The church can provide guidance and counselling beside offering information on the fight against Covid-19.,” Said Bishop Chirchir.

He said the church was able to operate without violating the guidelines on prevention of Covid-19 as provided by the ministry.

Chirchir accused the state of failing to involve the church before banning mass worship.

“We ask county and national governments to involve the clergy in the sensitization program,” he said.
