Clergy claim BBI is divisive.
A section of clerics have said the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was causing divisions in the country.
National Churches council of Kenya in Nandi County said Kenyans were now politically divided because BBI was imposed on people.
Addressing journalists at ACK St. Barnabas church in Kapsabet, NCCK chairperson Dr Christopher Seurei said that the views of all the stakeholders were not accommodated.
“No one is listening to the judge advice on BBI, copies have not been distributed to the public and most of the people do not understand what is in the document,” said Seurei.
They said that going for a referendum will make Kenyans to suffer most since covid 19 had caused a lot of economic stress adding that there was no access to county resources leading to poor distribution.
“There is youth unemployment, economic decline,no accountability and transparency drug and substances is on the rise political utterances from politician is a threat to cohesion,” he said.
They said peace and security situation were hindered by nepotism, tribalism, poverty, bad policies and retrogressive cultural practises.
The clergy also noted that the health provisions has been affected by corruption, shortage of health personnel and corruption, evident through shortage of drugs at the health facilities.
The leaders asked electorates to elect credible and accountable leaders into office .
They also called upon church leaders to give directions and push for developments to enhance equity and balance in resource equity.
They asked county governments to conduct peace meetings at the community levels.
The clergy asked media houses give accurate information calling on NCIC to ensure that there was peace in the country without discrimination.
At the same time, the clerics asked the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that people exercise their rights to vote and ensure that issues of boundary declamation should be done fairly.
