Barred from County assembly, more locals embrace technology as proceedings comes live in Nandi amid Covid-19.

More locals in Nandi County are now using digital technology to follow county assembly proceedings since physical access to the venue was barred following the outbreak of Covid-19.

The number of views at the county assembly Facebook page has increased significantly with a minimum participants at 100.

The live coverage of the county assembly proceedings and committee sessions was started by the current speaker Joshua Kiptoo.

The page has been active in providing live coverage but with few views until the outbreak of Coronavirus disease when physical access to the assembly was barred by the County Government.

Beatrice Chepngeno, a trader in Kapsabet said she had sought permission to following committee proceedings in the assembly only to be turned away.

“I was told to follow on Facebook. I didn’t like the idea at first but I have found it more convenient. I will be using the platform even after the pandemic when the assembly reopens,” she told north rift mirror.

She added, “When the speaker started platform, we were dismissive at first but now we have seen how brilliant his idea was.”

Terik member of county assembly Osbon Komen said that the live streaming has bought sanity in debating at the assembly.

“The live streaming of assembly’s debate has been live changing to the residents of Nandi and nation as a whole. Residents get realtime information as they say information is power and also the workings of the assembly.

This has also brought sanity in debating at the assembly. We will strive to be objective as assembly to serve.” He said.

Speaker Joshua kiptoo told the residents to continue viewing both Facebook and you tube live stream whenever there’s a session to get full details and information as it happens.

The Facebook page has over 10,000 followers.
