Baringo MCA’s wants county commissioner transferred.

Baringo Members of County Assembly have demanded immediate transfer of County Commissioner Henry Wafula.

Wafula has received fierce criticism from the Baringo County Assembly, for allegedly threatening officials who accuse his office of failing to address the disaster in the County accusing the County Commissioner for playing politics instead of discharging his duties.

This comes barely three days after people who identified themselves as police officers arrived at Bartabwa in the early hours of the morning who arrested the ward representative Reuben Chepsongol before taking him to Kabarnet where he was interrogated and later released ordered by Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula.

Chepsongol arrest has sparked outrage in Baringo County Assembly which now calls for Wafula to seek immediate transfer from Baringo County, claiming to be a major barrier to efforts to end livestock theft and arbitrary killings in the county.

Baringo North Member of Parliament William Cheptumo has also strongly supported calls for Mr. Wafula to seek transfer from Baringo.

“The commissioner should be removed immediately since he poses a threat to leaders who defend their people against arbitrary killings in Marigat and Baringo North. He does not have capacity to work in our county marred with banditry and cattle rustling” Cheptumo said

The County Commissioner has not yet spoken about his decision to order the arrest and subsequent release of Mr. Chepsongol, a Move that has seemed to raise security concerns given that Baringo County Assembly has lost some of its members, a recent case in 2017 being of the late Thomas Minito, a Churo/ Amaya ward representative who was reportedly arrested by people who identified themselves as police officers in Kabarnet and later his body was found in Athi River in Machakos County.

They gave President Uhuru Kenyatta seven-day ultimatum to transfer the Commissioner.
