Baringo County to spray Narrow bee flies ‘Nairobi fly’ which has invaded Kabarnet town.

Baringo County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health Mary Panga has said that Baringo Government is currently looking for specific drugs to deal with narrow bee flies “Nairobi fly” which she said has been in kabarnet but not in large numbers as it is being witnessed.

Panga called upon business people in Kabarnet town who have been affected by the famous Nairobi fly to leave their work places until the pests are properly controlled with special drugs. She confirmed that, no one has so far been affected.

“We are trying to look for specific chemicals to eradicate these insects as we monitor. I therefore, ask the business people to be cautious and to leave their premises as we look for solution.” Panga Said adding that it could be attributed to the heavy rains experienced across the country.

This comes after a swarm of narrow bee flies known as “Nairobi fly” invaded Kabarnet town where baffled residents were forced to close down their businesses.

According to experts, the insect known as Nairobi fly is only found in the eastern African region, it is among the insects which are attracted to light and it is found mostly in homes.

The experts say that it begins to crawl down after the lights are turned off.

“Nairobi fly” either does not bite nor harm the human in anyway, but its effect occurs if the insect is crushed on the skin releasing the pederin toxin which causes a burning sensation and swelling.
